Office Room Allocation Policy

The office allocation policy is as follows:

  1. Single-person staff rooms
    • Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, and Joint Appointment Professors
  2. Shared staff rooms (two persons aharing one room)
    • Instructors and Teaching Assistants
    • Adjunct Professors
    • Joint Appointment Staff (other than Joint Appointment Professor)
    • Visiting Professors, Visiting Associate Professors, and Visiting Assistant Professors
    • LKY Post-doctoral Fellows
  3. Research staff (Senior Research Fellows, Research Fellows, Post-doctoral Fellows, Research Associates, Research Assistants, etc.), Visiting Senior Research Fellows, and Visiting Research Fellows will be allocated in respective labs until there are sufficient shared staff rooms for allocation. University space norms regarding amount of allocated space will be adhered to as far as possible. If there are sufficient shared staff rooms, existing Senior Research Fellows who were previously not allocated shared staff rooms will be offered to move to such shared rooms; subsequently, if there are still sufficient shared office rooms, new Senior Research Fellows will be allocated to such shared rooms.
  4. A staff, whose new entitlement is a shared room, changed from a single-person room, will be relocated to an appropriate shared room accordingly in due course, eg during the vacation period.
  5. A staff, who is entitled to a shared room, may occupy a shared room alone under special request on the understanding that a new staff member can be assigned in the same room when the need arises.
  6. All part-time and adjunct staff (Adjunct Lecturer to Adjunct Professors) will be using any available seat, on a first-come-first-served basis, in a hot-desking cluster. The cluster is made up of a few rooms having a common key so that a part-time or adjunct staff can access any room in the cluster with the same key. Each room has 2 seats. The seating in the cluster is not fixed, unlike the allocation for full-time staff in a shared room.
  7. Any special request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the SOC Space Management Committee and BuildFac, in consultation with SoC HR, HODs, and Dean.
